Types of Abuse in a Nursing Home
Financial Abuse: The nursing home staff can take advantage of the vulnerability of the patient and steal money or other objects from them.
Physical Abuse: Sadly, this is one of the most rampant forms of abuse in a nursing home. Staffers shake, beat or slap patients due to frustration. Physical abuse or physical restraint might lead to serious injuries or death.
Verbal Abuse: Talking down, insults, racially segregation or making the patients feel inferior are considered forms of verbal abuse.
Sexual Abuse: Some staffers may also sexually abuse the patients or take advantage of them in a nursing home.
Neglect: Neglecting a patient by not properly taking care of them and their needs.
Medication Abuse: Overmedicating or sedating patients so they are easier to manage is illegal, and a form of elder abuse. Even withholding the patient's medication for malicious purposes is a form of abuse.
